We are heartbroken about the destruction across the southeast caused by the recent storms. We have connections with two United Methodist churches in the northwest Birmingham area, and we look forward to serving their community now and in the weeks ahead.
About current and upcoming trips
Our first disaster response team left for the Birmingham (Pleasant Grove) area on Tuesday, May 3 and returned on Thursday, May 5. The team worked in the outer perimeter areas of the tornado destruction, helping tarp roofs and cut down trees. This was also a scouting trip in order to assess what the future needs will be and how our teams could help in the days and weeks to come.
On Thursday, June 2, CrossRoad sent its second team to help with clean-up from this storm. They worked in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, assisting Pleasant Grove UMC in serving their community.
Contact Scott Crawford if you would like to participate in future trips.
Why we are going
We are thrilled to be part of Jacksonville's response to the storm. We know that many organizations are reaching out to help and we would love to work with others across Jacksonville who are helping bring relief. As a church, we value communities being transformed by authentic compassion. Responding to this disaster is simply a way for us to live out that value in the Birmingham community. We believe in building a bridge of good works in order to share the Good News of Jesus Christ. By offering a hand to help, we want to offer hope to those who are hurting. It's our desire to build relationships with people there to be able to have the opportunity for connection and investment between our communities in the future.
